Local brewery attracts national critical acclaim

LANCASTER — Less than two years after becoming Lancaster’s premier microbrewery and gastropub, Kinetic Brewing Company has made a name for itself on the national craft brew scene. On the heels of being named by the Los Angeles Times as one of the “Five Standout” brewers at L.A. Beer Week this September, Kinetic earned two bronze medals at the Great American Beer Festival held this past weekend in Denver, Colorado.

The national achievements and critical acclaim are a credit to Kinetic’s owner, Steve Kinsey, and brewing team led by head brewer Alexandra Nowell, one of the few women brewers in the industry and the only one in L.A. County.

To say these rewards are a dream come true for Kinsey would be putting it lightly. Since the first time Kinsey crafted his own home brew, he aspired to make it his career. And, while it took 15 years for Kinsey’s passion to find a place to call home, through Kinetic Brewing Company he has changed the Antelope Valley’s social scene.

Shortly after the opening of Kinetic, Bravery Brewery, a second independently owned microbrewery, opened on the south edge of Lancaster. Bravery Brewery prides itself on brewing very small hand crafted batches with the highest quality ingredients for the purpose of creating beer that is both high quality and unique. In February of this year, the community’s interest in home brewing developed into the opening of The Bearded Brewer. A family owned business, The Bearded Brewer specializes in homebrewing supplies and equipment, as well as those for wine and cheese making.

Inspired by its developing craft beer community, Lancaster has partnered with Kinetic Brewing Company and the JetHawks to create the first annual Field of Drafts Craft Beer Festival.

On Saturday, November 9, 2013, event goers at Lancaster Municipal Stadium will enjoy live music, sports entertainment, games and a selection of craft beers from dozens of the finest brewers in the nation. Bravery Brewery and The Bearded Brewer are also sponsors of this event.

VIP tickets for Field of Drafts are sold out. However, general admission tickets are $30, and military and seniors (age 55 and up) receive a $10 discount.  For more information, visit www.cityoflancasterca.org/beer.
