“We are proud and honored of our teams accomplishments, not only of the past week but over the past year” said Steve Kinsey, co-owner and Director of Brewing Operations at Kinetic Brewing Company.
Kinetic Brewing was recognized in the Chocolate Beer beer-style category for its 4 th Gear (4 th Anniversary Ale), an Imperial Stout made with Madagascar Vanilla Beans and aged on organic Ecuadorian Cacao Nibs (small pieces of crushed, roasted cacao beans). These nibs impart subtle dark chocolate notes. Less sweet and slightly bitter, cacao nibs impart a rich, earthy, bittersweet affect. Kinetic Brewing Company is a 10-barrel brewpub located in Lancaster, CA that specializes in traditional and lower-alcohol beer styles with a commitment to brewing clean, high-quality, innovative, and often unapologetically hoppy beers.
Opened in December of 2011, Kinetic Brewing Company will celebrate their fifth anniversary throughout the month of December and will release 5 th Gear (5 th Anniversary Ale) on Friday, November 25 th in bottles and on draft at their brewpub on The BLVD. Every year Kinetic Brewing Company’s “Gear Series” is a brewed to a different style. In 2012, 1 st Gear was a Bourbon Barrel-aged English Barleywine. In 2013, 2 nd Gear was a Triple IPA. In 2013, 3 rd Gear was a Flanders Red Ale aged for two years on third-use American oak. 5 th Gear will be a Mixed-Fermentation Sour Beer that has been aging in chardonnay barrels since February of this year. 6 th Gear has already been brewed and fermentation is nearly complete “but we are keeping that one a surprise for now” said Kinsey. “We have a lot of options… we are going to produce several variants and whichever is the best will become 6 th Gear”.
This is the second time Kinetic Brewing Company has medaled at the Great American Beer Festival. In 2013 Kinetic Brewing Company earned two medals, a bronze for Potential Blonde in the German-style Kölsch category and another bronze for Torque in the Session Beer category.
The 2016 GABF competition winners were selected by an international panel of 264 expert judges from the record number of 7,227 entries, plus 88 Pro-Am entries, received from 1,752 U.S. breweries.
“The innovation, creativity and flavor of American beers was well showcased at this year’s Great American Beer Festival,” said Chris Swersey, competition manager, Great American Beer Festival. “This was the most competitive competition to date, with a record number of entries. Congratulations to all the winners who truly demonstrated the best of America’s beer culture.”
